How U&I handles personal data.

This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how it supports matching and safety, and the controls available to you.

1. Scope

U&I is an intentional dating platform built around compatibility, verified profiles, messaging, safety tools, and real-world date planning. This Privacy Policy applies when you use the U&I mobile app, website, support channels, and related services.

By using U&I, you acknowledge that we process personal data as described in this policy. If you do not want us to process data required to run the service, you should not use U&I.

2. Data we collect

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data: app events, authentication activity, last active time, presence status, IP address, device type, logs, and crash diagnostics.
  • Location data: approximate or precise location if you grant permission, used for discovery distance, city-based matching, venue suggestions, and safety features.
  • Push notification data: device push token and notification preferences used to deliver match, message, safety, and account alerts.

Optional third-party verification

If you connect Instagram, LinkedIn, or another supported verification provider, we may receive public profile details, provider account metadata, profile photos you choose to import, and authenticity signals. You can remove optional verification in the app.

Sensitive information. Some profile fields and preferences may reveal sensitive traits such as faith, ethnicity, relationship goals, or orientation. We process these only to provide dating, compatibility, safety, and user-controlled profile features. We do not sell this information.

3. How we use data

  • Account operation: registration, login, authentication, email verification, support, and account security.
  • Matching and discovery: profile ranking, compatibility scoring, distance calculations, discovery filters, likes, passes, and match creation.
  • Messaging: message delivery, media uploads, read receipts, reactions, quoted replies, push notifications, and abuse prevention.
  • AI-assisted features: tone checks, icebreakers, private wingman suggestions, and safety-related distress detection where available.
  • Safety and moderation: photo review, reports, blocks, SOS alerts, date check-ins, trusted contact alerts, fraud prevention, and enforcement.
  • Date planning: date invitations, venue suggestions, confirmations, voucher redemption, and post-date closure flows.
  • Product improvement: analytics, debugging, performance monitoring, service reliability, and feature planning.

4. What other users may see

Eligible users and matches may see your display name, age if visible, photos, bio, occupation, neighborhood, interests, trust tier, compatibility context, and other profile fields you choose to provide. Matches may also see messages, reactions, replies, read receipts, date invitations, and date-session status.

We do not show your exact GPS coordinates, email address, phone number, password, safety circle details, support tickets, or private AI suggestions to other users.

5. How we share data

We do not sell personal data. We share data only where needed to operate, secure, or legally protect the service.

6. Retention

  • Account and profile data is kept while your account remains active.
  • Messages and media are kept while needed to provide messaging, unless deleted or removed according to product rules.
  • Safety, trust, and moderation records may be kept after account closure where needed to prevent abuse, investigate reports, resolve disputes, or comply with law.
  • Deleted accounts are removed or anonymized within 30 days, except where retention is legally required or necessary for safety and abuse prevention.

7. Your rights and controls

  • Access: request a copy of your account data.
  • Correction: update your account, profile, preferences, photos, and visibility settings in the app.
  • Deletion: delete your account in the app or follow the account deletion instructions.
  • Visibility: pause discovery, hide certain profile details where supported, block users, and manage notifications.
  • Permissions: control location, photos, microphone, camera, and push notifications through your device settings.
  • Objection or restriction: contact us if you want to object to or restrict specific processing where applicable law allows.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. We respond to verified privacy requests within 30 days unless a longer period is permitted by law.

8. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards such as HTTPS, password hashing, access controls, monitoring, and moderation workflows. No online service is perfectly secure, so we also encourage strong passwords, device-level security, and careful sharing of personal information in chats.

9. Age requirement

U&I is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the service. We may remove accounts that misrepresent age or otherwise violate this requirement.
